Is Christianity a religion of love and peace or full of bigoted, hate-full and unforgiving s?

Christians seem kind ,caring people but scratch the surface and you will come across some quite extreme views. Are these people practising what they preach or are they phobic bigots who are unforgiving and unbending in there beliefs?
