We've all been stars in the past. The sun is something like third generation, which means there have been other stars here before, which exploded, producing a cloud of ges and heavy elements. Most of the ges became the sun, the dust became the planets and us. That's a very sketchy explanation of a complex process, but that's the gist of it; you, me, everyone else, we're all supernova dust.
